Riley Keough Says Mother Lisa Marie Presley ‘Died Of A Broken Heart’ After Her Son’s Death

Lisa Marie Presley died last year due to a small bowel obstruction, which was a result of the complications from her weight loss bariatric surgery. Recently, Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter, Riley Keough, revealed in an interview that her mother “died of a broken heart” following Benjamin’s death in 2020.

Benjamin died from suicide in 2020 at the age of 27, and Lisa never fully recovered from the loss. Lisa Marie left behind three children: Riley Keough (with ex-husband Danny Keough) and 15-year-old twins Finley and Harper Lockwood (with ex-husband Michael Lockwood).

Following Lisa Marie’s death, her daughter Riley fulfilled her promise to complete her mother’s memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown. Riley used her mom’s recorded tapes to finish the book, which included challenging topics like her brother’s death, her mom’s addiction, and Lisa Marie’s death.

Lisa Marie previously opened up about her son’s passing in a 2022 People essay for National Grief Awareness Day. She mentioned that one never truly “moves on” from loss of loved ones.

Riley Keough opens up about her mother’s memoir

In the memoir, Lisa talks about grief and loss, sharing how she and Riley Keough found comfort and healed their broken hearts through helping others. One kid wrote to Riley and said, ‘‘I didn’t kill myself last night because of what you said it would do to my family and those that are left behind.”

The memoir sheds light on their shared healing journey after experiencing loss, but Riley has explained there’s more to the book than grief and loss. Riley Keough will join Oprah Winfrey for a special discussion about her book at Elvis’ Graceland, airing October 8 on CBS and Paramount+.
